In some ways, I have been in the "information" field since the beginning of my professional life. Whether my work involved research, CRM systems, e-commerce sites, search engines or online publications, the logic behind how information is organized, retrieved and presented always fascinated me.
As I dig deeper into the information management profession, one thing that plagues me, as I am sure it does many other information management professionals, is the semantic ambiguity and methodological imprecision of our field as it struggles to evolve as fast as information grows.
What is 'enterprise information architecture'? Is it different from plain 'information architecture' (which some recognized names in the field say is just a synonym for the more correct term: 'user experience design')?
What about 'enterprise architecure'? Is this really an enterprise thing or just an IT misnomer?
How do enterprise information architecture, content management, knowledge management and information management all fit together? And if you add 'enterprise' before 'information management' or 'content management', are they suddently different practices or are these just synonyms?
I could go on...but you get the point.
I hope to contribute richly to the ongoing dialogues and debates here at StringtheNeedles.com.
