CoP is one of the few enterprise information management solutions that center on the human aspect of information-sharing rather than the system-centric focus of so many companies and practitioners. This paper seeks to identify the specific reasons for the disconnect between the Information Technology and Information Management functions in today’s enterprises. It proposes the adoption of ‘communities of practice’ as one possible solution to eliminating the challenges of today’s information organization, by enabling better communication and leaner practices among those accountable for information strategy and its outcomes.
